Smith hires Vietnam vet, conservative activist as field director
CONCORD — Former Sen. Bob Smith on Tuesday announced retired Army Colonel and Vietnam War veteran Jim McConnell of Swanzey will be the field director of his campaign.
According to Smith, McConnell has “extensive overseas experience at the Embassy in Budapest, as well as duty at the Pentagon and the 82 Airborne.”
He said McConnell is the Treasurer of the Viet Nam Veterans of Cheshire County.
Smith said McConnell “has been active in conservative politics for over 50 years and served as the Campaign Manager for Pat Buchanan’s presidential campaign in Florida and also was a key volunteer in the Ron Paul for President campaigns in New Hampshire in 2008 and 2012.”
Smith called McConnell “”exactly the kind of person we need. He is active with New Hampshire veterans, he is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, knows countless numbers of gun owners and veterans in New Hampshire, as well as Tea Party activists. He is a true conservative believer, a hard worker, and an expert organizer.”
