At a tour of Portsmouth’s ThermoFisher Scientific, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, citing fairness when asked about the medical device tax provision in the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
That tax could hit ThermoFisher, a glass slide manufacturer, to the tune of $20 million. Per a UnionLeader.com report of the visit, the group’s director of government affairs, Rich Jenkinson, expressed concern about the tax while noting that “more testing means a need for more slides.”
Shea-Porter countered by predicting that an influx of people in the healthcare system would offset that tax’s cost hike while still acknowledging she’d be watching the situation develop.
“We want to make sure we are being fair,” she went on to say.
ThermoFisher VP Michael Karsonovich said that expectations were low in the coming year and that the company would “pleased with single-digit growth.”
