The state Republican Party tonight is calling on Sen. Jeanne Shaheen to denounce a television ad by Texas Democratic candidate for governor Wendy Davis that is being called “the most ill-advised political ad or 2014.”
The ad is receiving national attention.
As the Washington Post reported, it attacks Republican candidate for Texas governor state Attorney General Greg Abbott for hypocrisy because, after suing and winning a large reward for the accident that caused him to become partially paralyzed, he has opposed similar litigation in his current position.
“A tree fell on Greg Abbott,” the narrator says. “He sued and got millions. Since then, he’s spent his career working against other victims.”
The NHGOP noted that Shaheen co-sponsored a fundraiser for Davis in July 2013.
NHGOP chair Jennifer Horn said Davis “has set a historic low by attacking Attorney General Abbott’s disability and Senator Shaheen should be ashamed of her support for her disgusting campaign. Senator Shaheen has raised money to fund this despicable ad, and she should immediately call for Wendy Davis to take it down.”
Horn goes on to charge that in New Hampshire, Shaheen has run “a dishonest smear campaign to distract for her record of voting with President Obama 99 percent of the time.”
Horn then tries to compare Shaheen to Davis, charging, “Voters will reject desperate politicians like Jeanne Shaheen and Wendy Davis in November because they are sick of their negative and dirty campaign tactics.”
The New Hampshire Journal is seeking a response from the Shaheen campaign.
