Poll: 2012 a contest of ideas, decided by Tea Party

New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation Republican presidential primary will be a contest of ideas decided largely by voters sympathetic to the Tea Party, according to a new survey by Magellan Strategies on behalf of NH Journal.

A majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (58%) say they support the goals of the Tea Party either all of the time or most of the time. Thirty-nine percent say they support the Tea Party’s goals only some or none of the time.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents, a plurality, say the candidates’ ideas and vision for the future are the most important factors in making their decision about whom to support in the Republican primary. Twenty-two percent said experience in business was most important. Eighteen percent said overall life experiences.
