Republican gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne today announced the support of 2nd District Congressman Charlie Bass.
“I am honored to secure Charlie’s support today”, said Lamontagne in a statement released by his campaign. “Charlie and his family have come to define public service in New Hampshire, serving our state with integrity and distinction for many years. Charlie is a fiscal conservative who has fought for bedrock New Hampshire principles in Washington of lower taxes, less spending and smaller government. As a small businessman, Charlie understands the challenges facing our entrepreneurs, and during his time in public office, he has shown an admirable ability to work with people with different perspectives and attract Independent voters. It is for these and other reasons that I’m also proud to endorse Charlie for re-election today.”
Ovide alluded to the gap between his well-known conservative stances and Bass’ moderate positions on several issues, stating, “Charlie and I may not agree on every issue, but we agree on most. The voters of the 2nd CD are well served by Charlie’s fiscally conservative, independent minded leadership.”
In remarks announcing his support, Charlie Bass said, “I am proud to endorse Ovide Lamontagne for Governor today. Ovide is a principled and proven conservative leader, who can unite our Party while attracting Independent voters this fall. These are challenging times, and Ovide’s experience and optimistic can-do attitude are exactly what New Hampshire needs right now from its next Governor. I know Ovide and I know that if elected, he will serve New Hampshire with distinction. I am proud to add my name to the hundreds who have signed up to support his campaign from throughout New Hampshire, and I look forward to working with him in the months ahead.”
Bass is the first member of New Hampshire’s federal delegation to make an endorsement in the governor’s race so far, with 1st District Rep. Frank Guinta and Sen. Kelly Ayotte staying out of the fray.
