Oil import fees the subject of ‘Maggie’s Tax of the Day’ for October 1st
To hear Ovide Lamontagne’s campaign for governor of New Hampshire tell it, rival Maggie Hassan will spare no tax on not only cigarettes and healthcare facilities, but now oil imports.
Items 14 and 15 in the Republican’s ‘Maggie’s Tax of the Day’ series target two votes surcharges for imports. The first, HB 296 from 2009, was a “supposedly temporary 25% increase in the oil-import fee to fund.”
The following year saw HB 1291 implemented to remove the “temporary” stipulation.
Lamontagne’s campaign email blasts “Hassan and the liberals in Concord” for removing “the language repealing the surcharge and making the increase permanent.”
