Less than a week after the story broke that she had missed an important gathering of her Senate colleagues for a fundraiser, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is keeping up its early efforts at defining Senator Jeanne Shaheen before next year’s election.
A press release yesterday tied the Democrat to disgraced San Diego Mayor Bob Filner, who’s contributed to Shaheen’s campaign in the past and is now facing allegations that he sexually harassed a multitude of women.
It further notes Eliot Spitzer, Anthony Weiner, and others as prominent Democrats facing sex scandals that fellow party members have stayed silent on, calling it “hypocrisy at its finest.”
“If Jeanne Shaheen wants to lead on women’s issues and prevent the real ‘war on women,’ she should speak out against the misconduct of her Democratic colleagues rather than collect their campaign contributions,” stated NRSC spox Brooke Hougesen. “Unfortunately, Jeanne Shaheen only seems interested in talking about the so called ‘war on women,’ if it serves her own political interests and liberal agenda, and that is a disservice to all women. If Shaheen was actually committed to ending the ‘war on women’ she’d return the entrenched Mayor’s money.”
