The New Hampshire Republican Party ridiculed Bill Shaheen, husband of Senator Jeanne Shaheen, urging the “lobbying attorney” to release his client rostrum on Thursday.
“Jeanne Shaheen has been in elected office for decades while her husband built a prominent law firm that represents clients that have directly profited from her votes,” Exec Director Matt Mowers said via press release. “If New Hampshire Democrats are sincerely interested in transparency, they must hold Senator Shaheen to the same standards and call on her husband to release his client lists, especially the ones he helped ‘dole out’ millions of taxpayer dollars to as part of the failed Obama stimulus. Otherwise, Granite Staters will view their partisan attack as nothing more than a desperate political stunt designed to distract from Senator Shaheen’s deciding vote to impose ObamaCare on New Hampshire families.”
The conflict of interest and transparency attack comes as pushback to New Hampshire Democrats calling on former Senator Scott Brown to release his client list, a move that provoked calls of hypocrisy.
Brown, who was ousted from his Massachusetts seat in 2012 by Elizabeth Warren, has continued to stoke expectations that he’s eyeing a challenge to Shaheen in the Granite State.
Beyond that, Governor Maggie Hassan’s time in the state Senate also saw her employed at Pierce Atwood LLP, “a legal firm with government affairs practice,” and was received a not so honorable mention in the NH GOP’s attack.
