Since taking office in 2013, Rep. Annie Kuster has yet to hold a legitimate townhall meeting for constituents in New Hampshire’s 2nd congressional district, and onlookers are taking notice.
Today Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, a Republican-leaning group, released video footage of trackers merely asking why she’d yet to appear before the people who elected her in such a setting. The customary procedure for candidates and their staff, regardless of party, when it comes to such incidences generally consist of not responding.
This time, however, Kuster ignored the tracker; someone in her entourage did not, choosing to instead taunt the cameraman. A supporter does so, too, asking if he “would like a doggy bag.”
Derek Dufresne, a spokesman for the organization, issued a harsh statement that minced no words on the lack of townhalls and the attitude of Kuster’s supporters.
“While Congresswoman Annie Kuster attends fundraisers and partisan events where only her supporters can attend, she continues to turn a blind eye to the rest of her constituents. That’s wrong. It has been over 400 days since Congresswoman Kuster assumed office. In that time, we find it hard to believe that she hasn’t found the time to host a single Town Hall meeting,” he stated. “In addition, the blatant and unapoligetic rudeness of Congresswoman Kuster’s supporters and friends is inexcusable. Residents of the Second Congressional District deserve to know that instead of meeting with them in a Town Hall, she would rather take advice and council from individuals like these.”
