A growing number of conservatives and Republican leaders are calling for Jack Kimball to step down from the New Hampshire Republican State Committee, including the New Hampshire Union Leader, Foster’s Daily Democrat, the federal Congressional delegation, New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O’Brien, his transition chair Jennifer Horn, and as many as half of the NHGOP’s Executive Committee.
But in his fight to save his job, Kimball is turning to, among others, the head of a Nottingham nudist camp. Mary Bonser attended an exclusive Sunday night gathering of Kimball partisans to plot the embattled Chairman’s survival strategy, according to WMUR.
Bonser and her husband own and operate Cedar Waters Village, a nudist camp that, according to its website, nhnude.com, is “family oriented, with activities for the whole family, from sports to just relaxing in the sun.”
Just two years ago, Bonser proposed that the town of Nottingham secede from the State of New Hampshire.
NH Journal has learned that several potential strategies were discussed at the meeting. Chief among these was a plan to have Tea Party activists call the offices of Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Rep. Frank Guinta to complain about the delegation’s request that Kimball step down from his post. One bizarre, and potentially destructive, plan was discussed as well. Sources close to the situation say that the group considered a plan by which Kimball would run for Governor as a Libertarian candidate to punish the GOP in 2012. It is unclear how seriously the plan was considered.
Either way, Kimball is running out of options. A special meeting of the NHGOP’s Executive Committee has been scheduled for September 1st, at which it is expected that NHGOP leaders will vote on whether to remove Kimball. The embattled chairman has been dogged byparty turmoil, poor fundraising, special election defeats and a scandal involving his support for the Libertarian Party, which violates state party bylaws.
Worse for Kimball, NH Journal has learned that his own handpicked Finance Chairman Bill Binnie is privately telling people that he needs to go.
