Granite Staters visit Texas Gov. Rick Perry

A group of 13  Granite State officials, business leaders and GOP activists — and one congressional candidate — have been in Texas early this week visiting with Gov. Rick Perry, who has been hinting at the possibility of another run for President in 2016.

NHJournal first reported on the trip in late April.

Veteran New Hampshire GOP strategist Mike Dennehy organized the trip after he agreed to help Americans for Economic Freedom, a group created last year by political operatives close to Perry. The Texas governor has been traveling the country promoting his state as a top place to do business.

Dennehy is aiding Perry and his team in broadening the Texas economic message into a national one. (Dennehy is a member of the board of directors of NHJournal.)

The group had dinner with Perry and his wife, Texas First Lady Anita Perry, at the Governor’s mansion on Tuesday night.

Granite Staters who attended were business leaders/activists Renee and Dan Plummer of Portsmouth; attorney John Lyons, also of Portsmouth;  veterans leader Paul Chevalier of Hudson, NHGOP vice chair J.P. Marzullo of Deering, attorney Bryan Gould of Bow, activists Robyn Dunphy of Manchester and Shannon McGinley of Bedford, Rep. Laurie Sanborn of Bedford, former U.S. Rep. (and current congressional candidate) Frank Guinta, state Senate candidate Howard Pearl of Loudon, businessman Fred Tausch of Merrimack and Dennehy.

Following NHJournal’s initial report on the visit Wednesday afternoon, Jeff Miller, a top Perry political advisor, told CNN, “The governor frequently hosts dinners at his residence with leaders from Texas and around the country. Last night’s dinner was an opportunity to visit with leaders from New Hampshire to discuss national issues such as the economy and job creation and how policies in the states will drive the economic resurgence in America, not one-size-fits-all policies coming from Washington.”

Miller and another confidante, Henry Barbour, accompanied Perry to the dinner.

Perry has been visiting with officials from across the country as he tries to rebound from his poor showing in the 2012 presidentrial campaign, which he has called a humbling experience.
