Franklin Mayor Ken Merrifield endorses Perry
Franklin, NH Mayor Ken Merrifield endorsed Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s presidential bid today, becoming one of Perry’s most high-profile Granite State supporters along with former Sen. Gordon Humphrey and 2010 Republican gubernatorial nominee John Stephen.
“Gov. Perry has an unmatched record on job creation, consistently conservative policies and a proven record of strong leadership. I am proud to support his campaign,” said Merrifield in a statement released by the Perry campaign, continuing, “Gov. Perry’s bold proposals to reform and reduce the size of the federal government will end the stranglehold the federal government has placed on job creation. He has the best plan to get America back to work: end the job-killing regulations, repeal Obamacare, balance the budget through fiscal restraint, reform the runaway entitlement system and make the tax code flatter and fairer with an optional 20 percent flat tax for both individuals and corporations.”
Merrifield’s endorsement is particularly notable as the mayor served as Mitt Romney’s Merrimack County campaign chairman for the 2008 Primary campaign. It is also some good news for the Perry campaign in the Granite State, coming on the heels of nearly a week of chatter about an odd speech Perry gave at a recent NH event.
