Republicans both in and beyond Granite State borders have bemoaned the lack of credible candidates lining up to challenge incumbent Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen in next year’s election, but a new, Twitter-centric movement made things more interesting, if only for a bit.
Yesterday radio host Hugh Hewitt tweeted out the launch of a movement to draft conservative commentator Mark Steyn for U.S. Senate, saying that “publishers will line up for his memoir of this great campaign.”
The tweet received quite a bit of acclaim from activists on the social media site, yet comes with an insurmountable caveat.
Though he resides in New Hampshire, Steyn is still a Canadian citizen, “meaning if he were to become an American citizen tomorrow he wouldn’t be qualified to take office for nine more years.”
Shaheen has enjoyed strong polling numbers for some time now, with many analysts giving her strong odds of re-election.
