Dover Cal Ripken Baseball 12 Year Old Allstars Beat Nashua North

The Dover 12 year old Cal Ripken Baseball All Stars return home from tournament play in Auburn, New Hampshire with a convincing 12-2 win against Nashua North.

Lead off batter, Cole Carter opened the game with a home run shot right past the center field fence setting the tone for the game. Offense continued during the second inning with hits by Austin McLean, Tommy Bennett, Hunter Zabkar and Carter to bring the score to 3-1 Dover.

Dover allowed another Nashua North run to score in the bottom of the second but would prevent their opponents from crossing home plate for the rest of the game. Dover batter Sean Hayden opened the third inning with a home run followed by Bennett, who reached on a walk, savvy base running would eventually allow Bennett to score. Moving into the fourth inning, Dover’s Hunter Zabkar singled on to bring up Derek Wood who homered to earn two RBIs. The inning continued bases loaded with Dover pinch runners Nick D’Andrea, Trey Stevens, and Damon Perkins. D’Andrea and Stevens would eventually score two more runs for Dover.

Fifth inning action included a hard hit shot by Eric Evans that hit the center field fence followed by a double from Hayden. Enter into the bottom of the fifth where Dover’s defense was on as catcher Damon Perkins caught a high foul ball followed by second baseman Cole Carter, who executed the game-ending double play.

Dover Pitchers Evans (2 innings) and Wood (2 innings) held strong for a collective four innings; Bennett was brought in to close out the game. The game was called at the close of the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. Final score 12-2 Dover over Nashua North. Tournament play continues tonight when Dover faces Barrington.
