Following a week of intense skepticism and scrutiny confronting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the State Department and the Obama administration’s overall handling of the Benghazi incident, Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire is on the offensive, putting the questions to Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
“With pressure mounting, Granite Staters want to know whether Senator Jeanne Shaheen still stands by her comments praising the former Secretary of State’s handling of the attacks and the events afterwards,” said the group’s spokesman Derek Dufresne in a press release. “New Hampshire deserves a leader who will seek answers to the tough questions about an attack on Americans, not one who would rather use her limited time questioning the Secretary of State to give praises for political gain.”
The release comes after a week that thrust the events of September 11, 2012 back into the spotlight, with House testimonies leading prominent lawmakers to conclude that a cover-up had taken place. California Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican, stated that there was “no question” that at least one person, if not more, from Clinton’s inner circle was involved.
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire’s release features video of remarks Shaheen delivered when the former Secretary herself testified earlier this year.
“I want to thank you for your leadership on Benghazi,” she said directly to Clinton at the time. “That’s the kind of leadership we want to see across our government.”
“With pressure mounting as fallout from questions regarding a cover-up of the Benghazi scandal grows by the day, Granite Staters deserve answers from Senator Jeanne Shaheen,” the release also states. “They want to know whether she still stands by her comments praising former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on her handling of the Benghazi attacks. Shaheen’s comments in January included ‘thanking’ her for her ‘leadership’ on Benghazi.”
