CONCORD — Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to keynote a campaign fund-raiser for Gov. Maggie Hassan mid-day Monday at the exclusive Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Contribution levels were $500 for a “friend” and $2,500 for a co-host. The event was closed to the media.
It was the second time in the past year that Biden raised funds for the governor of the first-in-the-nation primary state. The Vice President has not ruled out running for President in 2016.
Last summer Biden appeared at a fund-raiser for Hassan at the Maine home of New Hampshire Democratic lobbyist Jim Demers.
In reaction Monday, NHGOP spokesman Lauren Zelt posted on Twitter: “Nothing says ‘I stand by the failures of this admin’ better than fundraising with the VP.”
Candidate for governor Andrew Hemingway questioned whether Hassan had a taxpayer-paid state trooper accompany her to Washington, which, he said would have been a violation of the governor’s out-of-state travel ban.
A spokesman in the governor’s office did not respond to the New Hampshire Journal’s request for comment on whether the travel for the governor and any staffer who may have accompanied her was paid for by state or campaign funds.
