Ayotte blasts Reid over comments her unemployment benefits amendment is ‘scary’
New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte took umbrage with Majority Leader Harry Reid’s comments about her proposal to pay for extending unemployment benefits by wiping out fraud in the Child Tax Credit, taking to Fox News to respond to a floor speech by the Nevada Democrat.
“What Senator Reid had to say was absolutely ridiculous,” the first-term GOPer said. “There was a treasury report that found massive fraud with the additional claiming child tax credit because when you file, you don’t have to put a Social Security number down. That’s all I’m asking to do.”
“What he’s saying is just now true,” she continued.
“Now they want to go after children, children,” Reid said in his speech, going on to call it “scary.”
Ayotte’s proposed amendment would save billions over the next decade whilst simultaneously paying for extending unemployment benefits and restoring cuts to benefits for military retirees.
A release from her office earlier this week cited an AP report out of Indiana stating “an undocumented worker in Indiana admitted that his address was used to file tax returns by four other undocumented workers, who fraudulently claimed 20 children in total – resulting in tax refunds totaling nearly $30,000.”
