Are you ready for Binnie’s WBIN?

As NH Journal reported long before anyone else, Seacoast businessman and former candidate for U.S. Senate candidate Bill Binnie is using the old WNDS studio out of Derry as the flagship of his looming New Hampshire television empire. The Portsmouth Herald is reporting that the sale has officially gone through and Binnie is now the proud owner of WZMY, which used to be WNDS.

The station will now be called WBIN. You read that right. WBIN.

Binnie’s new venture will position him as a major player in New Hampshire’s 2012 first-in-the-nation presidential sweepstakes and makes him a competitor for advertising dollars against Manchester’s WMUR and possibly even the New Hampshire Union Leader.

You are getting way ahead of yourselves. Binnie’s own press release states that the sale will not close until early May, and the sale is subject to FCC approval, which is by no means assured. There is also the issue of current WZMY owner Shooting Star Broadcasting’s contract with New Age Media which is operating the station under a three-year agreement which may or may not be enforceable upon sale of the station.
