Former Democratic State Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan has formed a third party fundraising operation partly out of frustration directed at current Chairman Ray Buckley and his party’s limp performance in the 2010 midterm elections, a Democratic source tells NH Journal.
Sullivan formed the July Fourth Forum, she says, because she wants in on the third party fundraising action that she claims helped Republicans sweep the Granite State (except for the Governor’s office) last year.
But a Democratic source with knowledge of the inner working of the party tells NH Journal that Sullivan and a growing number of top Democrats are concerned that Buckley and his team spent too much money on staff, some of which they claim was redundant, rather than direct voter contact.
“They had, like, thirty people over there [at the state Democratic headquarter] last year and they got demolished,” the source told us.
Also at issue is a growing disagreement over Buckley’s management style. Some Democrats feel Buckley’s antics are childish and have lost their punch. The low point, according to the source, was when Buckley sent a staff member to Republican headquarters in a bunny costume to read a poem.
“It’s like, what are we doing here, people?” the source said.
